Hou Sheng-Tsung's research focuses on Innovation and Technology Adoption within organisations in the living industries and their diffusion in society as a whole. In particular, he has investigated how taxi drivers in Singapore and Taiwan have adopted an innovative GPS dispatch system. Using a combination of field research and comprehensive qualitative interviews on the one hand, and questionnaires on driver's adoption behaviour on the other, he has used a longitudinal approach to his research on the industry.

His research plan entitled Innovative Business Models in Service Industries: A Comparison of the GPS Dispatch Systems Used by Singapore's Comfort Taxi and Taiwan Taxi has received funding from the Sayling Wen Cultural & Educational Foundation and the National Tsing Hua University School of Economics and Management. His publications have appeared in a number of English-language and Chinese-language journals, including Academy of Management Perspectives, Information and Organization, Journal of Creative Behavior, and the International Journal of Entrepreneurship Behaviour & Research. Together with Prof. Ruey-Lin Hsiao of National Chengchi University, he has published a Chinese-language book, the title of which translates to Technology Sense-making: The Human Orbit of GPS Dispatch Systems.
